Los Thuthanaka

Los Thuthanaka—the sibling duo of Chuquimamani-Condori and Joshua Chuquimia Crampton—presented an early morning performance atop Aspen Mountain drawing from their acclaimed self-titled debut album. Named Album of the Year by Pitchfork and included in Resident Advisor’s list of the most important electronic records of the past 25 years, the album has been widely recognized for its singular sonic language. Grounded in Indigenous lineages from the Andes, the set developed within a high-altitude landscape of alpine meadows and distant peaks, where music met the rapidly shifting light and atmosphere of the morning. 

Los Thuthanaka’s compositions bring together traditional Andean forms with saturated electronics and electric guitar, creating a sound that is at once ancestral and digitally inflected. Chuquimamani-Condori’s use of keys, electronics, and Bolivian string and percussion instruments establishes dense rhythmic cycles, while Chuquimia Crampton’s guitar and bass move between driving momentum and textural rupture. Repetition becomes both ecstatic and disorienting as syncopated patterns drawn from dance traditions such as caporal intersect with elongated, trance-like passages, holding together seemingly incompatible temporalities.

Informed by an ongoing engagement with Aymara cosmology, queer thought, and intergenerational knowledge, the duo’s practice treats listening as a site of relation across time. Their work draws on familial histories and collective memory to situate lived experience in relation to both historical struggle and speculative futures.

Chuquimamani-Condori is a multidisciplinary artist, musician, composer, and producer belonging to the Pakajaqi nation of Aymara people. Their work spans electronic music, visual art, and poetry blending Indigenous Andean musical traditions with themes of Aymara survival, science fiction, Christian faith, ontology, and layered sonic samples drawn from diverse sources. 

Joshua Chuquimia Crampton is a musician and artist belonging to the Pakajaqi nation of Aymara people. His practice centers on experimental guitar compositions that draw on Indigenous musical lineages alongside contemporary experimental forms.
